Brazil World Cup Snapback
Nowadays, I find myself watching historic sporting events from my phone far too often. Probably more than I should. But the World Cup always reminds me how special sports can be when they're shared. I'm looking forward to getting back to that.
My earliest memories of watching soccer (football) are faint, yet clear:
Brazil vs. Germany in the 2002 World Cup Final. It was fate.
I was traveling internationally and had a layover in Europe where, at the age of 8, I was allowed to wander off on my own. My boredom wouldn't allow me to sit still, and my mother had a two-year-old to prioritize. I was determined to find my own entertainment.
My exploration proved fruitful. I stumbled upon Brazilian gold and was forever bonded with glory. Maybe it was coincidence that our layover happened to overlap with the World Cup Final. Maybe it wasn't. I barely remember the match itself, but I still remember the feeling: the finger wag, the haircut, and the dancing.
How can you not be romantic about football?
